The National Center for Genomic Editing in Agriculture

the center

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development – The Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Agriculture promoted the establishment of the National Center for Genomic Editing in Agriculture, which began operations in June 2020. The center unites 30 research groups from six Israeli institutes, which work on a wide range of crops and animals.

The center focuses on the development of plant and animal products based on genomic editing, the establishment of a system for long-term plant gene editing and the assimilation and development of technologies in the field of genomic editing to support the center’s activities.

Genome editing offers a revolution in the methods by which we improve crops and animals in the fields of agriculture.
Since the beginning of the existence of the human race, man used to perform selection in crops and animals in the hope of identifying types that would better suit his changing needs. Plant and animal breeding has evolved throughout history while developing and utilizing a variety of methods and technologies.
