About the Center for Genomic Editing

Background

The Israeli Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development- Chief Scientist promoted the establishment of the National Center of Genome Editing in Agriculture by investing approximately 18 Million USD in l a four-year program. The center activity started in June 2020.

The center unites 30 research groups from six Israeli institutes: Agricultural Research Organization –Volcani Center, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv University, Weizmann institute of Science, Galilee Research Institute, and Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research (IOLR).

The groups are working on a large set of crops and and livestock.

The center focuses on three themes:

Generation of agricultural products based on genomic editing

Development of delivery systems for the components of genome editing machinery

Development of technologies in the field of genomic editing

Building infrastructure and training manpower for genome editing
