Genome editing of large gene clusters

Local duplication of family members is a common way to increase complexity and adopt new functions of plant genes. Editing such complexes in general, and their deletion in particular is fairly inefficient by conventional genome editing tools.

We develop vectors and try to optimise transformation protocols to increase editing efficiencies of such gene clusters. We are testing the use of multiple gRNAs and the ways to “fix” rare chimeric sectors. In addition, we are trying to understand how variation in tissue culture conditions can impact rare editing events.
