The Levy lab is heading the Genome Editing Technology Unit (GetU) whose goal is to develop, test, curate and disseminate new technologies for editing the genome of crops in a way that the end products do not contain foreign DNA and could have been developed through traditional breeding.

The Levy lab has generated a genebank where constructs that were developed by the Levy lab or constructs that were acquired from other labs will be available for use by the consortium members.  These includes promoters for monocots and dicots, cloning systems that are modular and well adapted for introduction of unique or multiple guide RNAs and for expression of different Cas-variants.  Cas variants that have different, or minimal PAM requirements, that can induce DNA DSBs, Nicks, or base editors, systems for gene replacement, etc.. are being tested by the Levy lab and made available to consortium members.

In addition, the Levy lab is teaching the use of these new technologies via one-on-one mentoring and lectures
